I’ve got a flock of new chicks set up in a 40 ft2 enclosure within my garage – which also happens to have a hot tub in it. After a couple of weeks the odor from the wood shavings was no longer tolerable for my family & needed a solution.

I decided to try 6.6 litres of absorbent carbon to the wood shavings, and honestly, my wife and I were both pleasantly surprised by how quickly the odor disappeared. Within one day the odor was noticeably dissipated, and one day after that was completely neutralized.

My family can once again enjoy the garage space until the weather improves and the chicks can be moved outdoors. Absorbent carbon really works – I will definitely be using it in my chicken coops next.

Our family has two guinea pigs and we tried biochar to see if it would help with the odours and extend our bedding life. We found that adding about 10% biochar to wood shavings bedding made a big difference. The typical smells were gone and our bedding can last about twice as long.
